A pendant in the shape of ‘Algiz-rune’ of the Elder Futhark runic script, or alternatively the ‘Maðr-rune’ or the Younger Futhark runic script. The latter is mentioned in old rune poems. Both have later on been interpreted as ‘life runes’ or ‘protection runes’. The rune extends into the heads of Freki and Geri, the two wolves of Odin. The pendant has the same shape on both sides.

The Elder Futhark runic script was used by the Germanic tribes from the 1st to the 8th century. It was replaced by the Younger Futhark runic script in Scandinavia when the Viking Age began in the 9th century. It was in use until the 11th century. The majority of all runestones are carved using the Younger Futhark.
